The department has an active chapter of the National Student SpeechlLanguage/Hearing Association. Student members particiapate in many service learning activies, including visiting local nursing homes, doing projects with the Mekeel Child Care Center on campus and participating in some social events as well.

Students in this organization will be participating in several special interest projects this year. These projects include: pumpkin painting at a local assisted living center, a clothing drive and donations for operation smile.  Operation Smile provides money for surgeries for children with cleft palates.
