Professional and Secondary Education offers a Bachelor of Science Degree in Secondary Education leading to a teacher certification in the areas of:
The curriculum is designed to develop a community of learners who are competent and reflective professionals able to teach any child in any setting.
The courses and extensive field-based component develops
- Beginning educator's knowledge
- Skills, and dispositions relevant to content
- The learner and the learning environment
- Teaching and learning process
- Professionalism.
A personalized program will be developed for all students as they work with two advisors, one in education and one in the academic discipline they plan to teach.
Students who complete the required courses in one of the certification areas, the professional education courses, the university requirements, and the state requirements will be certified to teach in their major in the middle, junior high, and senior high schools within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
