"Eastern philosophy" typically includes Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Daoism, Jainism, Sikhism, Zen, Shintoism, Zoroastrianism, and Islam--diverse philosophical traditions which often developed in isolation from one another. In this course we will read and discuss the central thinkers and texts in several of these traditions, and also try to identify a few main areas in which these thinkers and texts converge or diverge with the Western philosophical tradition.
