The Master of Education in Health and Physical Education is designed to insure that health and physical education teachers gain research-based knowledge and skills that will enhance their ability to teach and to contribute to the profession through curriculum deveoplment, presentations, publications, research, and mentoring. The program bases course content on standards from the National Board of Teaching Standards, NASPE, NCATE, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. The Program recieved Advanced Program accreditation by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE) in 1999.
Program Outcome
All graduates will infuse contemporary issues into health and physical education by writing curriculum, articulating and applying concepts from the field of study, using instructional "best practices," designing developmentally appropriate learning environments and developing assessment strategies that demonstrate student achievement of content standards.
All graduates will assume mentor and leadership roles and actively collaborate, advocate and conduct staff development to insure quality health and physical education.
All graduates will participate in reflective assessment and the construction of new knowledge to improve practice by conducting action research and publishing or presenting at conferences and conventions.
