IN ORDER TO MAKE YOUR MOVE TO EAST STROUDSBURG UNIVERSITY GO AS SMOOTH AS POSSIBLE, AND TO HELP YOU PLAN YOUR COURSE LOAD PRIOR TO TRANSFERING HERE SO THAT YOU ARE ABLE TO COMPLETE OUR REQUIREMENTS IN THE MOST EFFICIENT MANNER, WE HAVE PUT TOGETHER A FEW SUGGESTIONS FOR TRANSFER STUDENTS.
- ALL STUDENTS, INCLUDING MATH MAJORS, MUST SATISFY THE UNIVERSITY’S BASIC MATHEMATICAL SKILLS COMPETENCY REQUIREMENT. YOU MAY DO THIS BY EITHER HAVING A MATH SAT SCORE OF 500 OR HIGHER, BY HAVING A PROFICIENT OR ADVANCED STANDING ON THE 11TH GRADE PSSA EXAM IN MATHEMATICS, BY HAVING COMPLETED A MATHEMATICS COURSE THAT TRANSFERS TO ESU AS A GENERAL EDUCATION MATHEMATICS COURSE AND WHICH WAS TAKEN WITHIN 5 YEARS OF ENTRANCE TO ESU AND FOR WHICH A GRADE OF C OR BETTER WAS EARNED, OR BY TAKING AND PASSING OUR COMPETENCY EXAM.
- OUR STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO EARN GRADES OF C OR BETTER IN ALL OF THE MATH COURSES THAT ARE USED TOWARDS THE MAJOR IN MATHEMATICS, INCLUDING ANY TRANSFER MATH CLASSES THAT WILL BE COUNTED TOWARDS THE MAJOR. THIS C OR BETTER REQUIREMENT ALSO APPLIES TO THE REQUIRED COMPUTER SCIENCE COURSE.
- IT IS UNIVERSITY POLICY THAT COURSES FROM TWO-YEAR COLLEGES TRANSFER AT THE 100 AND 200 LEVEL. THE ONLY MATH COURSES THAT WE COUNT TOWARDS THE MAJOR THAT ARE AT THE 100 OR 200 LEVEL ARE CALCULUS I (MATH 140), CALCULUS II (MATH 141), DISCRETE MATHEMATICAL STRUCTURES (MATH 220) AND MULTIVARIATE CALCULUS (MATH 240). COURSES SUCH AS LINEAR ALGEBRA (MATH 320) AND DIFFERENTIAL EQUAITONS (MATH 341), IF TAKEN AT A TWO-YEAR COLLEGE, WILL NOT BE COUNTED TOWARDS THE REQUIREMENTS FOR ANY OF OUR MATH MAJORS.
- A MINIMUM OF 15 CREDITS IN MATHEMATICS THAT APPLIES TO THE MAJOR MUST BE TAKEN AT ESU.
- DUE TO THE SEQUENTIAL NATURE OF THE MATHEMATICS CURRICULUM, STUDENTS WHO HAVE NOT COMPLETED AT LEAST CALCULUS II BEFORE TRANSFERING SHOULD EXPECT TO SPEND MORE THAN FOUR SEMESTERS HERE TO COMPLETE THEIR MAJOR REQUIREMENTS. YOU CAN VIEW THE SUGGESTED FOUR YEAR SEQUENCE THROUGH OUR MAJORS BY SELECTING THE APPROPRIATE LINKS.
- WE OFFER SOME OF OUR REQUIRED UPPER DIVISION COURSES ONLY ONCE EVERY YEAR.
