The faculty of the SECC view themselves as a professional service group whose service is to offer statistical advice on the design and analysis of quantitative and qualitative research projects to students, faculty, and staff of the University.

Quantitative research projects include observational studies, controlled experiments, and other projects in which data are collected. The aims of the Center are:

• To promote the practice of appropriate and informative statistical methods
• To be a stimulus to relevant teaching in the Department of Mathematics
• To provide high-quality statistical data analysis services to the university research community
• To provide research problems whose solutions are of immediate practical interest
• To increase the awareness of the utility of statistical expertise
• To foster mutually beneficial contacts between the University and the wider community
• To act as a focus for statistical consultancy within the University
• To provide state of the art elementary and advanced statistical resources that can be shared by all University faculty
