English majors select from three tracks and dozens of courses:
- The Literature Track, leading to a bachelor of arts, represents a traditional English degree program rooted in literature surveys and upper-division course work in major writers and special topics.
- The Professional and New Media Writing Track helps students develop composition and editing skills in journalism, technical writing, writing for the web, advertising and public relations writing, and multimedia writing. This track leads to the bachelor of arts degree.
- The Writing Track combines study of literature with a
variety of creative writing workshop experiences. Students can develop expertise
in poetry, fiction-writing, or creative non-fiction. This track also leads to the bachelor of arts degree.
- The Secondary Education-English degree track, which results in a bachelor of science degree. aims at students who aspire to teach. They study literature and classroom methodology so they can become effective, certified middle and high school teachers.
The department also offers an 18-credit English Minor.
