The Professional Development School is only for students admitted into the dual Early Childhood and Elementary Education program.
The ELED Apprentice II Cohort Semester brings knowledge and skills together in an authentic setting - An ESU Professional Development School (PDS). The work completed during this rigorous, but exciting, semester transforms students from university student to beginning educator and prepares them for their Resident Student Teaching semester.
The Apprentice II semester involves students in a learning community for two semesters that supports and guides their development as a competent and reflective professional able to teach any child in any setting. The cohorts include faculty from three ESU departments: Elementary, Reading, and Special Education and the Professional Development School faculty and staff.
The schedule begins with a two-week orientation on campus. Then, during the remainder of the semester, students will meet on campus two days each week. The "4-6 alternate" time on Wednesdays or Thursdays is a learning opportunity within the elementary building where students are teaching. These sessions are conducted by the PDS Building Liaison or other building/school disctrict personnel to develop their teacher identity and PDS community.
