The computer science program offers a limited number of assistantships (typically, a minimum of five per semester) to graduate students seeking financial assistance.

To receive an assistantship, a student must:

  • Demonstrate a good work ethic, and adequate programming skills.
  • Enroll as a full-time graduate student, with a minimum course load of nine credits.
  • Work 10 hours per week on a task of the department's choosing.

Assistants are typically asked to participate in departmental software projects, or to assist in the teaching of the department's service courses.

Students receiving assistantships currently receive $1,250 per semester, and are exempted from paying tuition (but not other fees).

In special circumstances, students may obtain 20 hour-per-week assistantships, which pay $2,500 per semester and include a tuition waiver.

For more information on the computer science department's internship program, contact the chair of the Computer Science Department's graduate program, Haklin Kimm.
