The Communication Studies Department's Internship Program is designed to provide students with real-life working experiences at companies and other organizations that offer such experiences related to the field of communication.

Internships are essential in the areas of broadcasting and public relations, but are also helpful in preparing the student for many other communication areas, including graduate school.

The broadcasting track requires students to take a 3 credit internship (CMST 486), but students in the other tracks are also eligible to apply.

Students who want to apply for an internship must meet the following three criteria:

  • They have a 2.0 in the major.
  • They have completed 15 credits of coursework in the major.
  • They have secured a sponsoring internship site.

CMST Internships are generally limited 3 credits, since additional internship credits may not be applied toward the major requirements.

Students may select which CMST faculty member they want to supervise the internship, subject to approval of the department chair.

Each semester, the CMST department holds an internship information session for CMST majors.

A letter announcing this event is sent out to all CMST majors.

Students can apply for an internship or for further information by contacting Rob McKenzie, CMST Internship Coordinator, at mckenzie@po-box.esu.edu, or 570-422-3886.
