The Department of Biological Sciences offers undergraduate degrees under a number of different rubrics.
The B.A. and B.S. in Biology offer a broad foundation based on a core curriculum.
With this education an individual has a wide range of career opportunities or may proceed on to graduate school.
Individuals may change careers later in life with minimal retraining required.
For those with more specific career goals a number of concentrations within the B.S. in Biology degree are offered.
After proceeding through a core curriculum, concentration specific courses are taken.
Concentrations within the Biology degree are: Integrative Animal Behavior, Integrative Organismal Biology, Laboratory Medicine, Pre-Medicine, Pre-Physician Assistant, and Pre-Physical Therapy.
A B.S. Biology (Secondary Education) is offered for those whose goal is teaching.
The B.A. and B.S. degrees in Environmental Studies allow an interdisciplinary approach to course selection.
Both degrees require an internship.
The B.S. in Marine Science offers field courses at the Marine Science Consortium at Wallops Island, VA.
This degree prepares students for opportunities in government, aquaria, consulting and research laboratory positions and to pursue advanced degrees.
For students whose career goal is diagnostic laboratory medicine there is the B.S. Medical Technology program.
The curriculum includes a twelve month internship at a hospital laboratory.
The Podiatric Medicine Transfer Program is a seven year cooperative degree program with the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine.
Starting in the fall semester of the 2000-1 academic year a B.S. degree in Biotechnology was offered.
For students interested in field biology, wildlife biology, or conservation biology we offer a program in Integrative Organismal Biology.
Members of the department teaching courses in this concentration offer field courses at El Zota Field Station in Costa Rica.
