WHAT WE DID ON OUR SUMMER VACATIONSeptember 8 - October 23 GUEST LECTURE AND ARTISTS' RECEPTION TO BE HELD WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7 For the opening exhibit of the 2009-10 academic year, the Madelon Powers Gallery will present What We Did on Our Summer Vacation, an exhibit featuring recent works by faculty members of the East Stroudsburg University Art Department and special guests. Hours for the gallery, located in the university's Fine & Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, are 11:00 - 7:00 PM Monday and Wednesday, and 11:00 AM - 4:00 PM Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The exhibit, which will consist of two- and three-dimensional works in a variety of media, reflects the fact that faculty members are also working artists. Art Department faculty members participating in the exhibit include: Herb Weigand, professor of art and department chair, Miharu Lane, associate professor of art, and assistant professors of art Joni Oye-Benintende and Darlene Farris-LaBar. Works by Dr. Wenjie Yan, professor of Communications Studies, and special guests Sun Tonghui and Ke Hegen of the art department of Shanghai Normal University, China, will also be part of the exhibit. ESU's Art Department has a summer exchange relationship with Shanghai Normal University's Art Department. Students and faculty members from Shanghai studied at ESU in the summer of 2008, and an ESU group of students and faculty studied in Shanghai this summer. As part of the exchange, Prof. Sun Tonghui will give a lecture on Chinese Pattern Design Wednesday, October 7th at 3:00 PM in Cecilia S. Cohen Recital Hall of the Fine and Performing Arts Center. Following the lecture, there will be a reception for artists from 4:00 - 6:00 PM in Powers Gallery. The exhibit, lecture and reception are open to the public at no cost.
