Every year, ESU offers short-term faculty led programs for students interested in having an international experience. Following is a brief description of ESU faculty-led short-term programs:
Spring Break in Puerto Rico 
The program involves a 3 credit course on Puerto Rican society and culture, which provides an overview of Puerto Rican history, art, music, floklore, ecology, geography and politics. The program is designed as a series of lectures and workshops. In addition, students will participate in different excursions including visits to Old San Juan, Puerto Rican Museum of Art, El Yunque Rainforest, the City of Ponce, the Camuy Caverns, and Fajardo's Bioluminescent Bay. Previous knowledge of Spanish is not required, as workshops and excursions are imparted in English. ESU Summer in China (*)
The program takes places at Shenyang Normal University (SYNU) in Shenyang, China. The program includes roundtrip airfare, tuition at ESU, tuition at SYNU, room & board, travel within China, and health insurance. Students enroll in CMST 485 (one credit) and transfer from SYNU three credits in basic Chinese language, and three credits in areas of interest, including Chinese politics, economics and culture. With the exception of the course in Chinese language, all courses are taught by in English by Chinese professors, assisted by ESU faculty member Dr. Wenjie Yan. ESU Summer in Ghana (*)
The courses POLS 333 & POLS 520: Africa are offered in the post-session. They examine relevant topics in Modern Africa, inclduing theories of development, nationalism, gender, ethnicity, religion, and class cleavages, concept of states & nations, democracy and the African military, multinational companies in Africa, regional organizations, the influences of Islam and Christianity in Africa and globalization. ESU Summer in the Dominican Republic (*)
The program focuses on the history of the Caribbean, especially the history of the Dominican Republic and Haiti, the two nations that shared the Island Hispanola. Christopher Columbus landed on this island during this first trip in 1492. The Dominican's capital city, Santo Domingo, is the oldes European-founded city in the New World. The Island is where the European conquest of the American began. Students will explore issues that shape Hispanola and apply them to Latin America and other non-Western areas of the world. ESU Summer in Mexico (*)
The program takes place in Mazatlan, Mexico and is open to all ESU student. The program takes place in Mazatlan, a city nestled in the Pacific coast of Mexico. The program includes a course in Comparative Media, which examines ways in which the local media portrait globally-focused issues. As part of the course, students will participate in several excursion to Mexico-controlled media corporations, including TV, radio and newspaper stations. In addition, the program includes a course in Spanish language offered by Universidad Autonoma de Sinaloa, Mazatlan, according to their placement level. The program also includes lecture series of topics relevant to the US -Mexico international relations, among which are immigration, tourism and trade agreements. Public Health International Program - Dominican Republic
The ESU Health Department offers graduate and undergraduate (junior and seniors) students a 3 credit course titled International Health Science during summer pre-session. Participants will spend two weeks studying the political, economic and cultural determinants of global health and the spend one week in the Dominican Republic, analyzing the island's national health system. The program is coordinated with the Public Health program at Universidad Central del Este , a university based in San Pedro de Marcoris. PSY 360 - St. Croix, Virgin Islands (*)
The course is imparted partly in the ESU campus and partly on-site in St. Croix during Summer pre-session. The program is oriented to advanced Psychology majors. For the on campus section, the course meets for about 18 hours at ESU for intensive instruction on behavioral therapy and an overview of major theories used to compare cultures. Following, participants travel to St. Croix and tour the island for two days with focus both on social service delivery systems and historical sites. Students then work in a not-for profit agency providing Psychology services and therapies. Students also keep a journal and write a reflection paper on cultural similarities and differences they observe in the therapy setting and in day-to-day activities on the island. England (Oxford)
Political Science (*)
The courses POLS 332 & POLS 540 are offered in post-session at Oxford University, in collaboration with Indiana University of Pennsylvania. The courses emphasize the political functions and structures of governments in Great Britain in comparison with those of the United States. Theater (*)
The courses THTR 420 & THTR 520 are offered in post-session at Oxford University, in collaboration with Indiana University of Pennsylvania. These courses explore Myth and Ritual as they relate to theater both in its primary foundations as in its modern applications. The use of masks and various primary aspects of theater and acting will be examined. The course will culminate in an informal performance, reflecting elemental acting skills as they relate to mythological and ritualistic foundations for theater. Austria & Germany
The course HIS 270 explores the origins and development of Central Europe, focused on the period between 1500 and 1789. Participants learn about the Reformation, the Thirty Years War and the contributions of the Holy Roman Empire as incubator of politics. The academic dimension of the program is controlled by ESU and the logistics are coordinated through travel agency Cultural Studies Academy. The program cost (TBA) includes roundtrip airfare, room/breakfast, ground transportation, orientation, weekly bus passes, cultural activities, and three full meals. In addition, students must pay tuition at ESU and are required to participate in three tours (Munich, Salzkammergut and Berchtesgaden). The courses HIS 473 & HIS 521 explore the origins and development of early modern Germany to the present. Selected sites will be used to examine aspects of the First Reich, the Reformation; development of the Modern German state, 19th century Germany, the Third Reich and Federal Republic. International Student Exchange Program (ISEP)
ISEP offers many interesting opportunities for ESU interested in studying or completing internships abroad. Programs imparted in English are available in Estonia, Finland, India, Italy, Korea and Thailand. In addition, students can go abroad and study in a foreign language. In addition, ESU is part of the 14 Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. With some restrictions, students may participate in the summer programs offered at any of the 14 universities.
