  The university is located in the university town of Villanueva de la Cañada, 25 km northeast of the city of Madrid. Villanueva de la Cañada is connected with Madrid by regular bus service.

Housing   Students are housed in shared student apartments and receive a pre-paid meal card for the university cafeteria or an equivalent stipend to make their own meal arrangements.

University   Universidad Complutense de Madrid
Location   Madrid, Spain
  While the campuses accommodate a city-sized student population, the setting is very pleasant with broad, attractive open spaces that separate classrooms and residence halls. Buses and two subway lines connect the campuses with downtown Madrid.

Europe's highest city at 646 meters above sea level, Madrid is the capital city of Spain. The main north-south artery, Paseo de la Castellana connects the city's two main train stations, Chamartin and Atocha. The oldest quarters of the city are squeezed in between Paseo del Prado (where you'll find the city's great art galleries) and the Palacio Real. The barrio southeast of Puerta del Sol leads to the working-class district of Lavapies, filled with restaurants, bars and cafes

Housing   Students live in double-occupancy rooms in one of the colegios mayores on campus, or in flats shared with other ISEP and international students. Each colegio has its own cafeteria where students receive 21 meals per week. Those living in flats receive a monthly stipend to cover meal costs.

University   Universidad de Almerïa
Location   Almerïa, Spain
  Located on the southeastern coast of Andalucïa, Almería is a medium-sized city of about 200,000 inhabitants. The city lies at the foot of a mountain range and is overlooked by a Moorish fortress called the Alcazaba. Almería has a busy port, an old town, and a bustling boardwalk (paseo marítimo). The city is the capital of the Almerïa province, which has semi-arid desert climate and receives the most sunshine and least rainfall of all of Europe. The province has several beautiful beaches, natural parks, and interesting villages to visit.

Housing   Students have the choice of living in a residence hall or an apartment. For students who want to live in an apartment, the university will make a reservation in the Almería Youth Residence (Albergue Juvenil) where they will stay while they look for an apartment. University   Universidad de las Islas Baleares
Location   Palma, Spain
The main campus is set in a natural habitat approximately 7.5 km outside of Palma, the capital of the Balearic Islands. The islands of Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera form the Balearic archipelago to the east of mainland Spain. Due to their strategic location, the islands have been a major crossing point for all commercial routes in the Mediterranean throughout history. Their culture, climate, clean beaches, calm sea, beautiful landscape, and comsmopolitan character have gained the islands their worldwide fame as an attractive tourist destination. The islands are easily accessible by air from the rest of Europe and by sea from mainland Spain. Palma is a medium sized city of about 380,000 and has many advantages of a medium-sized city while offereing permanent leisure and entertainment facilities.

Location   Málaga, Spain
  Málaga, the capital city of the Costa del Sol and the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, has become the economic capital of Southern Spain due to its important tourist sector. Located on the Mediterranean and close to the Strait of Gibraltar, the origins of Málaga are remote. Throughout its 3,000 years of history the Phoenicians, Romans and Arabs, among other civilizations, have forged the character of an open and cosmopolitan city.

Limited semester placements (Semester 1: early October to February; Semester 2: February to late June/early July). Because semester exchanges are limited to a few per year, apply in February for the spring semester for best chances of placement.

Language   Students must have an advanced level of Spanish having completed at least six semesters of university-level Spanish or the equivalent. A month-long intensive course in Spanish language (70 hours total) is offered prior to exchange in September and February (tuition included in ISEP benefits). Students pay for their housing and meals during the pre-session (students interested in moving into the residence hall early while participating in the pre-session may contact the Residence Hall directly via e-mail). In addition to summer courses, Spanish language and culture courses are offered during the academic year (not included in ISEP benefits).
Housing   Students live in residence halls and receive a monthly meal stipend. Alternate housing and meal benefits cannot be offered. There is no married student housing.

University   Universidad de Murcia
Location   Murcia, Spain
  A true wedge among the regions of Valencia, Castilla-La Mancha and Andalusia, Murcia is the product of a crossing of civilizations throughout its history: Muslim, Castilian and Valencian-Aragones have all left their traces in the city. Situated in southeastern Spain, Murcia has a Mediterranean climate with very little rainfall and enjoys more hours of sunlight per year than most Spanish cities. Its fertile soil, bathed by the Segura River, has provided the nickname for which Murcia is known: the Orchard of Europe. Two seas are located in the region: the Mediterranean Sea and the Mar Menor are tranquil and warm all year.

For ISEP-Direct placement, students have to have an intermediate level of Spanish having completed at least 4 semesters of university-level Spanish or equivalent. The ISEP-Direct program can also accommodate advanced levels.

University   Universidad de Santiago de Compostela
Location   Santiago de Compostela, Spain
  Centered in the heart of Galicia in the Spanish Northwest, Santiago lies only 30 km from the sea and is linked with the rest of the world via its international airport. Santiago harmonizes the charm of a medium size town with a universal, cosmopolitan character shaped by its history, monuments and cultural wealth. These have combined to confer UNESCO protection upon Santiago under the designation of "Heritage of Mankind." Santiago is the seat of the government of the Autonomous Community of Galicia and attracts international congresses in the fields of science and humanities. It is a lively meeting point for university teachers and students who enjoy the dynamic structure of this medieval city.

Pre-session Spanish-language courses are available in July, August, and September, and supplemental language courses are offered during the academic year (neither are included in ISEP benefits).
Housing   Students are housed in double-occupancy rooms in residence halls or pensiones. A monthly stipend is provided to enable students to purchase meals in the cafeteria or local restaurants.

University   Universidad Pública de Navarra
Location   Pamplona, Spain
  Universidad Publica de Navarra is situated in a peaceful and sunny part of Pamplona, not far from the city center. Pamplona is a manageable size. You can reach most points of interest in Pamplona on foot. Internationally, Pamplona is best known for its festival of San Fermin and el Encierro (Running of the Bulls), which take place in July of each year.

Pamplona is the capital of Navarra, a region located in the north of Spain bordering on France. In the Middle Ages, Navarra was important as a crossing point for highways and the pilgrimage routes of the Camino de Santiago (The Way of Saint James). In addition to its historic importance, Navarra is especially rich in natural attractions. Though only 10,400 square kilometers, Navarra is characterized by three distinct climatological zones, which lead to a variety of natural settings.

Language   At the university, all courses are offered in Spanish. For some subjects, additional course sections are taught in Basque language, depending on demand.

Students must have an advanced level of Spanish having completed at least six semesters of university-level Spanish or the equivalent. A five-day Spanish language refresher course is offered for ISEP students at no extra charge the week prior to the start of classes. During academic periods, ISEP students may enroll in one non-intensive Spanish language course (three hours per week) (included in ISEP benefits). Students may enroll in additional language classes at their own expense. The multimedia language center associated with the university offers courses in Spanish and other languages at very affordable rates.

Housing   ISEP students are placed in shared student apartments and receive a stipend to cover rent and meals. Host family placements can be arranged for an additional monthly fee.

University   Universidade de Vigo
Location   Vigo, Spain
  Vigo is located in Pontevedra, Galicia, in the northwest corner of Spain. Known as Spain's largest fishing port and famous for its sheltered harbors, Vigo draws a living primarily from its shipbuilding and fisheries industries as well as its Citroen car factory. Vigo is one of the most important fishing fleet bases in the world.

Rich in culture and tradition, Vigo offers an excellent setting for learning about the cultures of Spain and Galicia. As one of Spain's officially recognized autonomous regions, Galicia has two official languages: Castellano (Spanish) and Gallego (Galician). Gallego is a language of Latin origin and similar to Portuguese. Galicia's population is bilingual and students will find they can get by just fine using Spanish. Nearby attractions include beautiful beaches and an unspoiled coastline as well as the city of Santiago de Compostela, Christendom's third most important site of pilgrimage in the Middle Ages

Language   Students must have an advanced level of Spanish having completed at least six semesters of university-level Spanish or the equivalent.

The language used in the administration is Galician (Gallego), which is one of the official languages of the autonomous region of Galicia as recognized in the Spanish Constitution. The university devotes special interest to the development and study of the Galician language in close cooperation with other Galician universities. Most of the information produced by and about the university, including curricula, subject programs and transcripts, is written in Galician. Nevertheless, most of the teaching is done in Spanish. The ISEP coordinator assists students in identifying courses taught in Spanish prior to enrollment.

A non-intensive Spanish language and culture course for foreign students may be offered throughout the year (October to December and March to May, three hours per week) if the minimum enrollment quota is met (not included in ISEP benefits). All Spanish language courses for foreigners are offered by the Centro de Linguas; courses offered by the Centro de Linguas are not included in ISEP benefits.
