The first day to request a tutor for the fall semester is August 6th 2014
The Department of Academic Enrichment and Learning offers FREE tutoring for over 90 courses at East Stroudsburg University. Tutoring takes place at the Learning Center in Rosenkrans East.
Students may request tutors in one or more courses, or apply to become a tutor by completing the appropriate application.
Who Can Participate in the Tutoring Program?
Tutoring is available for all students enrolled at East Stroudsburg University. Regular, consistent, and constant participation in the ESU Tutoring Program will increase the ability of achieving academic goals for the semester.
What Are the Benefits?
- Receive extra assistance with concepts and materials presented in class
- Learn the material from a different point of view
- Learn in a group setting with other students
* All tutors receive training as outlined through the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) Level 1 certification.
ESU tutors and members of the Department of Academic Enrichment and Learning also conduct Final Review Sessions prior to exam week.
Types of Tutoring Sessions:
Individual: Provides one-on-one support for students
Small Group: Tutors assist 2 or more students during a session. Often students find this type of tutoring valuable, as they may benefit from the thoughts, opinions, and ideas of their peers.
Drop-In Tutoring Labs: No appointment needed! These walk-in sessions are perfect for students who may not need weekly support, or are looking for additional support on top of individual tutoring.
Supplemental Instruction (SI): These sessions are designed for large groups. Supplemental Instruction is a series of weekly review and discussion sessions attached to specific courses that are historically difficult for students.
What Should I Expect During a Tutoring Session?
During tutoring sessions, tutors will answer questions you have concerning class material and concepts. They will guide the discussion to allow for comprehension and understanding of material presented during a lecture. Additionally, tutors will provide suggestions on how to study and utilize different approaches to reach your academic goals. They will demonstrate how to take notes, read the textbook, and review techniques necessary for academic success.
