State System, APSCUF Reach Tentative Agreement, Strike Ends

Late Friday afternoon, we received an announcement that the strike between the faculty union (APSCUF) and the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education has been settled. Faculty members will return to work effective midnight tonight. For students that have regularly scheduled classes this weekend, report as scheduled. All other students should follow their class schedules starting Monday, October 24.

The Department of Sociology, Social Work and Criminal Justice offers a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology; Bachelors of Science in Social Work; and Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice with three minors in Sociology, Social Work, and Criminal Justice.

The study of Sociology, Social Work & Criminal Justice is relevant to a wide range of occupations including law enforcement, correction, social work at various settings, management, marketing, social research, government agencies, non-profit organizations and other private industries. The major and minor programs offered in the three disciplines open the door to careers in human services, business, education, government, and community relations. These degree programs also offer a solid foundation for those interested in graduate work in Sociology, Social Work, Criminal Justice as well as in many other disciplines.

The Department of Sociology, Social Work & Criminal Justice is home to scholars with eclectic interests and research topics. In addition to providing a stimulating student-centered learning environment, our faculty is well known for being caring advisers and mentors. The faculty is representative of diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds, religious affiliations, as well as diverse academic specialties. They also are dedicated to scholarship and community service.
