Take advantage of both undergraduate and graduate courses on-line. Our on-line courses are ideal for students (from ESU or any other college or university) looking for general education credits or courses to apply to their majors over the summer. Our undergraduate courses are also perfect for high school students wanting to get started on their college credits. Click here for a listing of our current distance education courses.

Technology considerations for on-line courses at ESU:
Most class work will be completed on-line however, some on-campus meetings may be required. Please contact the course instructor for details (contact information can be found on the course listings).

Students registering for Distance Education (on-line courses) are required to have daily access to a PC or Mac using Microsoft 2000, Vista or Windows XP and a high speed internet connection.

Other requirements/suggestions:
At minimum, we suggest installing Word and PowerPoint reader (free from Microsoft). You also might need (depending on the course):

  • Adobe reader
  • Macromedia Flash or Shockwave
  • Quicktime (needed for courses using Live Classroom)
  • Java (also needed for courses using Live Classroom)

Browser (any of the following will work):

  • Microsoft IE 5.0 or greater
  • Netscape 6.2.x or greater
  • AOL 7.0 or greater
  • Mozilla 1.5 or greater
  • Firefox

Course Numbers
Course descriptions are arranged by departments or by program. The course numbers are used to indicate the year in which courses are usually taken by students and/or the minimum number of prerequisite course(s) the student ought to have completed to gain admission in to the course. The student should read the catalog description of each course for more detailed information regarding the prerequisite(s) for that course.

  • Below 100 level remedial courses do not carry credits toward graduation
  • 100-199 Freshman level courses; typically no prerequisites
  • 200-299 Sophomore level courses; probably has one prerequisite
  • 300-399 Junior level courses; at least one prerequisite
  • 400-499 Senior level courses; at least two prerequisites
  • 500-600 graduate courses, cannot be taken by undergraduates without advance approval

In cases where students have not completed the prerequisites for a particular course, they may request a waiver of the prerequisites from the course instructor.

If you have any questions about Distance Education, please contact Jennifer Serowick at 570-422-2859 or email jserowick@po-box.esu.edu.
