Undergraduates
Since 1981, East Stroudsburg University has offered the opportunity for senior citizens to enroll in courses tuition-free. To qualify, you must be a legal resident of Pennsylvania, sixty years of age or older and retired (i. e. not presently engaged in full-time employment).

Under this program, senior citizens are limited to a maximum of six credits (usually two courses) per semester in a non-degree status. If you plan to take more than six credits or enroll as a degree-seeking student, you are not eligible for the senior citizen tuition waiver. (See the Admissions section of the website for procedures for admission as a degree seeking student or a non-degree seeking special student.)

Registration for classes is done on a "space available" basis. That is, after all other degree-seeking students have had the opportunity to register, senior citizens may sign up. To apply for the Senior Citizens tuition waiver for Summer, Contact the Summer Sessions Office (570) 422-2872 and an application will be mailed to you. An application and eligibility form must be filled out and returned to the Center for Enrollment Services.

For Fall Semester, beginning in September and Spring Semester beginning in January Senior citizens must submit an application and eligibility form for each of these SEMESTERS. For the Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver applications, eligibility form and instructions for completing them, go to the Admission section of the website.

Graduate School
If you have a bachelor's degree and wish to take graduate work, please do not complete the undergraduate Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver forms. The Graduate School has a senior citizen application for those interested in higher-level courses. Please contact the Graduate School at (570) 422-3536 for this application.
The Older Adult Learning Center
The Older Adult Learning Center is a community activity dedicated to the philosophy that learning should be a lifelong learning experience and to the belief that continuous educational pursuits in retirement contribute significantly to the quality of life.

The Older Adult Learning Center, a membership organization, sponsored by East Stroudsburg University, is affiliated with the Elderhostel Institute Network.

The Older Adult Learning Center, offers a number of diversified courses geared to the interests of its members covering such topics as art, history, finance, health, sports, philosophy and writing. The courses offered are limited only to the interest and imagination of its members.

The benefits of participation in The Older Adult Learning Center are multiple:
  • The sheer joy of learning without the pressure associated with term papers and exams.
  • The opportunity to interact with people who share a commonality of interests.
  • The opportunity to explore unfamiliar subjects and broaden horizons.
  • The opportunity to realize the unique satisfaction that exploring new ideas and experiences generates.
Membership
There are no educational background requirements. Membership is available for an annual fee of $35.00. (September to August). Members are eligible to participate in all Learning Center Activities. Courses offered each semester are selected by a membership curriculum committee from suggestions submitted by members of the Learning Center. For a $25.00 tuition fee per term, members may enroll in an unlimited number of courses. Where applicable, a modest fee for course materials may be charged. All courses and activities are held during daylight hours. Qualified volunteers who are proficient in their chosen subject provide instruction.
