Learning Center
The Learning Center provides individual and group tutoring by professional and peer tutors free of charge to ESU students in 100 and 200 level general education courses. Tutors are assigned on a first come, first served basis, and students must complete and submit a request form in order to receive tutoring. Although tutoring is not an accommodation for a disability, new peer and professional tutors participate in a tutor training program that includes strategies for tutoring students with disabilities. Drop–in Labs (group tutoring without an appointment) are offered in writing, mathematics, economics, and accounting, physics, and chemistry. Also, Supplemental Instruction is available in certain courses.
Center for Educational Opportunity
The Center for Educational Opportunity (CEO) is a state ACT 101 program for economically and educationally disadvantaged students. In addition to coursework and tutoring, students have access to peer and professional counselors and opportunities for social and cultural activities.
Student Support Services
Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded TRIO program designed to improve academic performance, increase motivation, and enhance potential for success among students who qualify for participation. Eligibility is determined based on a student's status as first generation, low income, and/or having a documented disability.
Students who have disabilities are encouraged to work with tutors, use drop–in labs, and participate in CEO or SSS when they meet the eligibility guidelines. Participation in grant–funded programs does not affect services provided by the Office of Disability Services.
