C.A.T.S (or College Achievement Training Seminars) is a series of workshops based on research and designed to enhance the university experience for students with disabilities. C.A.T.S. is mandatory for all freshmen who participate in the Disability Services program.

Fall Workshops

  • Getting into the swing of things
  • Self–advocacy and asking for accommodations
  • Rights and responsibilities of university students with disabilities
  • Self–regulated learning
  • Learning styles assessment
  • Study strategies based on learning styles
  • Reading textbooks effectively
  • Effective notetaking from texts and for class
  • Negotiating university life (communal living, registration, resources)
  • Test taking strategies
  • Test anxiety and stress management
  • Research and research papers
Spring Workshops
  • Time management
  • Planning and organization
  • Goal setting and decision making
  • Critical thinking and problem solving
  • Memory skills and mnemonic devices
  • Career planning (interviewing, internships, summer jobs)
  • Academic year review and self–regulated learning recap
  • Diversity and advocacy celebration
Certificates will be awarded at Disability Services Awards Reception in April to those students who complete C.A.T.S successfully.
