This office serves as your advising home.
What is Academic Advising?
As you develop your academic plans, you will want to ensure that they are compatible with university requirements and with your own long-range goals.
Academic advisors can assist you with these challenges.
Your advisor can clarify the intent of university requirements and help you meet them in a way that can be most rewarding for you.
Advisors can provide specific information about academic course and programs.
They can also help you determine the nature and direction of your education.
Meetings with your academic advisor will assist you in making good decision.
Taking Charge of Your Academic Life
Each student must meet with an advisor before registering for classes.
Advising workshops and individual advising appointments are essential parts of the university's student orientation programs.
Although, you are encouraged to talk to an advisor at least twice a semester, your advisor will be happy to meet with you more frequently.
Many students consult their advisor often during their first two years.
When Do I Have to decide?
When you're ready. For most students, no more than 40 academic credits.
Some majors, especially in the sciences and professional schools, require course work that is best started during your first year.
A delay in declaring of these majors could add to the time it takes you to complete a degree. Most students make this important decision in a timely manner and enjoy the process.
