ESU Announces Web site To Honor Its Distinguished Professors/Committee Also Calls for Nominations
East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania has announced a new Distinguished Professors website recently launched as part of the university website. The new site is dedicated to honoring faculty members who have been selected as Distinguished Professors at the university since the program’s inception in 2000.
The new website includes a series of separate profile pages for each of the 24 faculty members who have been awarded Distinguished Professor status thus far. In announcing the new website, members of The Distinguished Professor Awards Committee encourage the campus community and the general public to visit the university website at www.esu.edu and type in the key words Distinguished Professors.
The university distinguished professorship is a pre-eminent faculty rank bestowed by the university upon members of the university faculty who have made outstanding contributions to the academic life of East Stroudsburg University in at least one of the following categories: teaching, scholarship, creative endeavor, service to the university or community. Four distinguished professorships were awarded in 2000 and in 2001. Beginning in 2002, the professorship is to be awarded to no more than two faculty members each year. To date, only 24 faculty members to the special faculty rank of distinguished professor. These awards, the highest faculty honor, recognize the excellence of superb faculty members and their outstanding contributions to the academic life of ESU.
The Distinguished Professor Award Committee is now accepting nominations for next year’s Distinguished Professor awards. Nominations are due by October 1, 2009 and detailed information is available on the new webpage listed above. ESU students and alumni are invited to nominate former professors to receive this honor.
