ESU Associate Professor, Dr. Jack Truschel,
Selected As Academic Fellow By The
Council of Learning Assistance and Developmental
Education Associations
Dr. Jack Truschel, professor for academic enrichment and learning and director of academic advising at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania has been selected as an academic fellow by The Council of Learning Assistance and Developmental Education Associations (CLADEA) located in Minneapolis, Minn.
"Selection as an Academic Fellow represents the highest honor conferred upon professionals in learning assistance, tutoring, and developmental education. The title of Fellow is a prestigious recognition of an academician's leadership, research, and publications in his or her field of expertise," according to Dr. David Arendale, fellows election chairperson for the CLADEA. Many national professional associations have a fellows program to recognize their members who have been exemplary through their professional leadership and accomplishments.
Recognition for national influence in the profession was validated by the current CLADEA Fellows after Dr. Truschel's nomination by the Association for the Tutoring Profession. He is now one of a small group of 30 within the field of 100,000+ developmental education, tutoring, and learning assistance professionals that has been selected for this recognition of your lifetime contributions and national influence.
The nomination materials submitted by the Association for the Tutoring Professionals (ATP) highlighted Truschel's teaching excellence, scholarly contributions, and professional service. According to Dr. Arendale, one section from this letter crystallized the reason for widespread support of designation as a CLADEA Fellow. The nominator commented on his devotion to "servant leadership" as characteristic of his life as well as his actions within the profession. Providing leadership with the founding of two national organizations, National Tutoring Association and the Association for the Tutoring Profession are extraordinary. Truschel continued this involvement by serving as a national officer in various positions within these organizations. Arendale stated that this influence has not only been with the professionals within the field, but also with the countless students who are served and are achieving their dreams as a result of successful tutoring programs across the nation.
Dr. Truschel has been a member of the ESU community since 1989. He received his bachelor's degree from King's College, and a master of arts and a master of public administration degrees from Marywood University. He earned his doctorate in education from Temple University and a doctorate in psychology from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
Accompanying this recognition award is the invitation for Truschel to work with previously selected Fellows in formulating national policy statements, presenting at national forums with educators and policymakers, and selecting future CLADEA Fellows.
