Dr. Pamela Kramer Ertel Named Dean
of ESU's College of Education

Dr. Pamela Kramer Ertel has been appointed the new Dean for the College of Education at East Stroudsburg University, it was recently announced by ESU President, Dr. Robert J. Dillman.

Dr. Kramer Ertel, an ESU faculty member since 1990 served as interim dean of the university's College of Education at various intervals from 2006 through 2008. She is a professor of early childhood and elementary education. Dr. Kramer Ertel was interim dean previous to her recent promotion.

Previous to coming to ESU, Dean Kramer Ertel served as an adjunct instructor in education and a supervisor of field experiences at Centenary College in Hackettstown, N.J. She started her career in education as an elementary teacher in New Jersey.

She earned her doctoral degree in elementary education from Lehigh University, her master's degree in early childhood education from Kean College of N.J., and her bachelor of arts degree in elementary education with a concentration in early childhood education from Marian College in Indianapolis. She is the President-Elect of Kappa Delta Pi, the International Honor Society in Education with 45,000 members worldwide. She is also active in the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education, the Association for Teacher Educators, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, the National Science Teachers Association, and the Pennsylvania Association of Colleges and Teacher Educators.

Throughout her career, Dr. Kramer Ertel has made professional presentations on international, national, state and local levels, and has been published in professional journals and other national publications including Contemporary Education, the Kappa Delta Pi Record, and the Pennsylvania Teacher Educator. She is the author of The ABC's of Classroom Management, published by Kappa Delta Pi. She has been awarded grant funding for numerous projects related to literacy, faculty workshops and educational materials.

As Dean she will be responsible for providing leadership for the College of Education and work toward improvements related to academic excellence and efficient operations through planning, organizing, administering, and evaluating the educational programs.

The new College of Education is positioned to feature its teacher education programs with greater appeal to prospective students, faculty and administrators, and to strategically improve the preparation of teachers. The college includes six academic departments and approximately 70 faculty members and has over 2000 undergraduate and graduate students. It was recently re-accredited by the National Council of Accreditation for Teacher Education (NCATE). The offices of Academic Enrichment and Learning, Upward Bound and the Office of Field Experiences and Partnerships are also part of the new college.
