ESU Chapter of International Nursing Honor Society, Sigma Theta Tau, Inducts New Members
East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania's Xi Beta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, an international honor society of nursing, inducted new members for the 2007-2008 academic year at a ceremony held Sunday, April 27 at the Stroudsmoor Country Inn in Stroudsburg, Pa.
Inductees into the ESU Xi Beta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau from the graduating class of 2008 are: Kathryn Burke, Lincoln University, Pa.; Jaclyn Detweiler, Saylorsburg, Pa.; Diana Herbst, Mahwah, N.J.; Laurie Fishinger, Melissa Kalymun, and Iesha Johnson, East Stroudsburg, Pa.; Krista Myers, Montrose, Pa.; Chelsea Pierre, Gouldsboro, Pa.; Tina Walton, Roosevelt, N.J.; and, Julie Dowden of Stanhope, N.J.
Selection criteria for Sigma Theta Tau include academic success and a demonstration of personal commitment to nursing excellence. Undergraduate students must have completed one-half of the ESU nursing curriculum, have a minimum quality point average of 3.0, and rank in the upper 35th percentile of the graduating class. All inductees must also satisfy the expectation of academic integrity.
In 1922 six nurses founded Sigma Theta Tau, choosing the name from the Greek words Storgé, Tharsos and Timé meaning "love," "courage" and "honor." The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International provides leadership and scholarship in practice, education and research to enhance the health of all people. The organization supports the learning and professional development of its members who strive to improve nursing care worldwide.
