DEPARTMENT OF MUSIC AT EAST STROUDSBURG UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA TO PRESENT "BON VOYAGE" CONCERT, SATURDAY, MAY 17
EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - Prior to their trip to Shenyang Normal University in Shenyang, China, East Stroudsburg University's A Cappella Ensemble and Pop/Jazz Singers will present a "Bon Voyage Concert" Saturday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cecilia S. Cohen Recital Hall at the University's Fine and Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, East Stroudsburg.
The concert, sponsored by the Department of Music, is open to the public at no cost, however, goodwill donations to defray expenses will be accepted.
The concert will include two Chinese songs, Mo Li Hua and Yue Liang Dai Biao Wo De Xin (My Heart Is Like the Moon) as well as two Bob Dorough selections, "Here We Are," and "Wonderful Night at the Waterhole," written for the Pop/Jazz Singers to celebrate Dorough's reception of an honorary doctorate from ESU.
East Stroudsburg University recently entered into a bilateral agreement with Shenyang Normal University to formalize an exchange program, and this trip will begin the universities' cultural exchange.
The two ESU music groups will leave for China May 19 and return May 29. During the visit, they will perform two concerts on the campus of Shenyang Normal University. Another group of ESU students also will be going to China in May for the third summer study program at Shenyang Normal University.
As part of the cultural exchange, a group of students from Shenyang Normal University will be at ESU July 26 through August 6 for a course developed by the ESU Art Department, American Creativity in Art and Design. In the fall, Shenyang Normal University will send a group of faculty and student performers to present Chinese folk music, dance and Peking Opera.
