Northampton Community College President, Dr. Arthur Scott, To Address Students at ESU Undergraduate Spring Commencement

Dr. Arthur L. Scott, president of Northampton Community College, will be the keynote speaker for East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania's spring undergraduate graduation ceremony. The undergraduate commencement will be held Saturday, May 10 at 10:00 a.m. in Koehler Fieldhouse.

Dr. Scott, who was named president of NCC in 2003 had previously served the college in several positions including: director of records, director of admissions, vice president of student affairs, chief labor negotiator, and, provost. In addition to his duties at Northampton, he has also taught as an adjunct professor in the College of Education at Lehigh University.

Dr. Scott holds both a doctorate and master's degree from Lehigh University, and a bachelor's degree from Gettysburg College of Gettysburg, Pa. While studying at Lehigh, he was named a University Scholar and received the Matthew W. Gaffney Award for Academic Excellence.

Active in the community, Dr. Scott was instrumental in the creation of a single United Way for the Lehigh Valley during his tenure as chair of the board of United Way of Northampton and Warren counties. He helped to found Leadership Lehigh Valley, a private, non-sectarian, not-for-profit organization established in 1985 to provide for the community's increasing need for capable volunteer leaders, and is a past chair of its board. Dr. Scott was also president of the board of directors of Community Services for Children, the only provider of Head Start/Early Head Start services in Lehigh and Northampton counties, and currently serves on the board of governors as well as the executive committee of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. He is past chairman of PA Campus Compact, a membership organization of college presidents from across the Commonwealth with 69 member institutions each committed to promoting community-based services as an essential element of higher education, and serves on the boards of the Lehigh Valley Business/Education Partnership, the Lehigh Valley Workforce Investment Board, St. Luke's Hospital and Health Network, the Manufacturers Resource Center, and the Center for Advancing Partnerships in Education. This year he is serving as the 2008 Light the Night Corporate Walk Chair for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Dr. Scott is the 2004 recipient of the Inez and Edward Donley Award for Advocacy for Children presented by Community Services for Children.
