Fisk University Executive Vice President and Provost To Address Students at Graduate Commencement Exercises in May at ESU

Dr. Kofi Lomotey, executive vice president and provost at Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn., will be the keynote speaker for the East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania's graduate commencement exercises which will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9 in the Koehler Fieldhouse.

Dr. Lomotey is a recognized expert on the topics of urban schools, students of African descent in higher education, principals of African descent in elementary schools and independent African-centered schools. He has published several books, articles, and book chapters and has received several awards including The Outstanding Scholar Award and the Distinguished Scholar Award from the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and the President's Award for Research from Phi Delta Kappa.

Dr. Lomotey earned a bachelor's degree in economics from Oberlin College, a master of education in curriculum and instruction from Cleveland State University, a master of science and a doctorate in educational administration and policy analysis from Stanford University. He serves as editor of the journal, Urban Education, and the Sage Encyclopedia of African American Education.
Prior to his appointment at Fisk University, Dr. Lomotey served as senior fellow for the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). He has been president of Fort Valley State University and senior vice president, provost and professor of
Education at Medgar Evers College of the City University of New York. He has also been a member of the faculties at Louisiana State University and the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Dr. Lomotey has been married to Aama Nahuja, Esq., for 31 years. They reside in Nashville and are the parents of a daughter and two sons and they have one granddaughter.
