ESU's Political Parties and Politics Class Visits U.S. Capitol
Twenty-three East Stroudsburg University students from the Political Parties and Politics class taught by Dr. Kimberly S. Adams, assistant professor of political science, traveled to the U.S. Capitol in Washington D.C. on April 23, to witness the legislative process and view, first-hand, the interaction among leading congressional Republican and Democratic members of Congress.
During their visit, the students watched President Bush and his motorcade arrive at the Capitol for a Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony. After the entourage entered the Capitol, the students' scheduled tour continued but with specific restrictions while the President was on location. The group was able to observe several members of Congress debating HR 3928, the Government Contractor Accountability Act of 2007, in the Capitol Gallery seating area.
After spending time at the Capitol, the students had lunch in the Longworth House Office Building cafeteria and concluded their day with a forty-five minute question and answer session with Congressman Paul Kanjorski (PA) and his chief of staff, Ms. Karen Feather. Congressman Kanjorski encouraged the students to be a part of the solutions to the problems of today and the future.
