Eight at ESU Inducted Into National Residence Hall Honorary

Six students and two employees at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania were inducted into the Ardath E. Houser Chapter of the National Residence Hall Honorary on Tuesday, November 13, 2007, in Linden Hall.

The National Residence Hall Honorary recognizes students and staff members who have shown exceptional leadership in the advancement of the residence hall program. Inductees are selected on the basis of past and present involvement in the residence halls. They represent one percent of students nationally who live in residence halls.

Students inducted were: Sara Gordon, a sophomore from Nazareth, Pa., majoring in education; Nyere Grant, a senior from Bensalem, Pa., majoring in computer security; Lisa Jannone, a junior from Pittstown, N.J. majoring in elementary education; Karyn O'Driscoll, a junior from Monroe, N.Y., majoring speech pathology and audiology; Louis Rivera, a senior from Bethlehem, Pa., majoring in health and physical education; and Megan Yozsa, a junior from Succasunna, N.J., majoring in social studies.

ESU employees inducted were: C. Matthew Simmons, a five-year resident director and Brenda Schleiker, a 14-year custodial supervisor.
Inductees were introduced by current active members of the National Residence Hall Honorary. The students praised the inductees for their leadership qualities and their work in planning and organizing residence hall activities ranging from social events to charitable fundraisers.

The ESU chapter was established in May 1995 and is named for Ardath E. Houser, a former assistant dean of students for more than 30 years. Its honor roll includes 93 ESU students and staff. Currently, the ESU Chapter is led by: Leslie Frishberg, president, a graduate student from Hawley, Pa., majoring in instructional technology; Anna Leigh Rowlands, vice president, a senior majoring in elementary and special education from Jim Thorpe, Pa.; Katie Ernest, secretary, a junior from Bensalem, Pa., majoring in history; and Kristin Downey, treasurer, a senior from Folcroft, Pa., majoring in math. Chapter advisor is ESU Assistant Dean of Students Dr. Nancy Weaver.
