ESU Student Recognized at PA Summit on Educational Excellence for Latino Students
Victoria Montero, a senior majoring in health service administration at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania, was honored as an outstanding Latino college student at the "Blue & White Dinner" held during the Pennsylvania Summit on Educational Excellence for Latino Students on Monday, December 10. The event was sponsored by the Governor's Advisory Commission on Latino Affairs and the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Ms. Montero, a transfer student from Northampton Community College, was recognized and awarded a certificate for her academic achievement as well as her involvement with numerous co-curricular activities. Ms. Montero's affiliations and achievements include: Act 101 Scholarship recipient (2006); Martin Cohen Foundation Scholarship (2006); Latin Alliance Scholarship of the Lehigh Valley (2005); Hispanic American Commitment to Education Resources (HACER) Scholarship (2004); Northampton Community College Latin Alliance Scholarship (2004); member of the Latin American Association (LAA) at ESU; community outreach worker for the Community Health Program at St. Lukes Hospital; undergraduate research assistant for Pennsylvania Center for Disease Control (CDC) Steps Program; and undergraduate researcher on immigrant health study.
"In the years that I have known Victoria she has demonstrated a passionate commitment and an entrepreneurial zeal for her work as a public health professional and most importantly for the causes she has championed through community-based organizations and for the Latino Community," said Dr. Alberto Cardelle, ESU interim associate provost for academic affairs and interim dean of graduate studies and research.
