His most recent research is in human face modeling related to identification, augmented reality and tele-presence and, creation of virtual animal organs for veterinary student education. Measuring human body pose in an automobile for research on comfort and safety is among several other areas of research he has also undertaken.

Dr. Stockman earned a bachelor of science degree in mathematics education at ESU (1966), an MAT in math education from Harvard University (Cambridge, Mass., 1967), a master of science in computer science from Penn State University (State College, Pa., 1971); and a doctorate in computers science from the University of Maryland (College Park, Md., 1977). Dr. Stockman has many academic publications and presentations to his credit. He has published scholarly articles and presented research findings in the disciplines of waveform parsing systems, object recognition, three-dimensional pose computations from multiple views, and in 2001 he co-authored a book titled Computer Vision. He has also served as the associate editor for Pattern Recognition, reviewer for Computer Vision and Image Understanding, and editor for a special issue on CAD-based computer vision education for Computer Image and Vision Understanding. In addition, he has been invited to make numerous presentations before state, regional and national associations and organizations on topics related to the fields of computer science and computer vision.
