ESU Women's Basketball Picked to Repeat as East Champs, Men Place Fourth in PSAC Preseason Coaches Polls

EAST STROUDSBURG - The East Stroudsburg University women's basketball team has been selected to repeat as PSAC East champions, and the men's program will be looking for its third straight postseason appearance, according to the preseason coaches polls released Tuesday.

The ESU women are the two-time defending PSAC East champions and are coming off a 25-4 campaign which tied the school record for victories in a single season.

Junior guard Jackie Yandrisevits, a first team All-PSAC East selection last season, was named to the preseason all-conference team. Yandrisevits led ESU with 14.8 points and 5.2 rebounds per game and also posted team-highs in field goal percentage (52.4) and steals (48) in 2006-07.

The Warriors men's squad has made consecutive trips to the PSAC tournament for the first time since 1990-91 and 1991-92 and was picked to finish fourth in the PSAC East in the preseason poll. The Warriors were 18-10 last season.

ESU will be led by senior forward Channon Easley, who was named preseason all-conference. Easley led the Warriors in scoring (12.8 ppg) and rebounding (8.3 rpg) and was third in the PSAC with 2.1 blocked shots per game a year ago.

Both teams will tip off the 2007-08 season with appearances in tournaments this weekend. The women will travel to Bloomsburg to face USP and Caldwell, while the men will match up against Holy Family in the first round of a tournament at Bowie State, and then play either the hosts or Cheyney in the second round.
