Policy Statement:

The East Stroudsburg University tobacco policy is applicable to all faculty, staff, students, visitors and guests.

The tobacco policy addresses the designated locations where use of tobacco is permitted throughout the University campus.

All forms of tobacco, including nicotine producing products (i.e., electronic cigarettes), are prohibited in all interior work, living, and academic areas of the University, including offices, classrooms, laboratories, lounges, libraries, student rooms, etc.

The use of tobacco and nicotine producing products is prohibited in all state system and University owned vehicles, including state system sponsored van pools.

Tobacco products are prohibited in the designated “No Smoking/Smoke Free” zones between the University Center and the Keystone Room, between Stroud Hall and the University Center and on the walkway below these two buildings.

Smoking and chewing tobacco use is prohibited in the East Stroudsburg University stadium. This includes any type of tobacco use by athletes, coaches, referees, faculty, staff, administrators or visitors.

Tobacco use is permitted in any exterior open area which is not within (or closer than) twenty five feet from the nearest facility entrance. Cigarette receptacles (or ashtrays) will be placed at the permitted locations for using tobacco outside of the University’s entrances to buildings.

Smoking areas are designated around facility entrances. Smokers are asked to remain OUTSIDE of these designated areas when smoking. Additionally, seven designated smoking shelters have been erected (and are strategically located) throughout the campus.

Anyone found to be smoking within a designated non-smoking area will receive a warning notice and be asked to extinguish their material and to move outside of the non-smoking area. Those failing to comply may be subject to disciplinary action.

The sale of tobacco products on University property is prohibited.

All groups, athletic teams, student media, clubs, Greek life, and all other organizations affiliated with ESU are prohibited from accepting money or tobacco products, including merchandise from tobacco companies and these organizations may not run tobacco advertisements in college-run publications.
