Campus Community Safety Alert

On 11/03/12 it was reported to ESU Police that an apparent abduction and assault had occurred to an ESU student while walking near campus on South Green Street on October 24th at approximately 11:15pm.

A female student was walking home from an off campus house to her Residence Hall. The female was approached by 2 males in dark hooded sweatshirts who pushed her to the ground and assaulted her and then forced her into an older model dark red 4 door sedan driven by a third person. The student was taken to an unknown location in the area and assaulted again before she was able to escape and found her way back to campus.

We are very concerned as this reported incident is a case of a female being targeted by a criminal group that appears to be looking for potential victims that are walking alone, in the night, in areas that are not well lit and have little to no vehicle or pedestrian traffic at the time of the incident. The criminals are potentially armed and dangerous and everyone should take safety precautions to reduce the risk of being victimized.

Safety steps include not walking alone, traveling in large groups and when at all possible travel off campus by vehicle or taxi. No one should walk alone and when you are on campus or in the immediate off campus (1 block radius) area you can call for a safe ride (570-422-3064) and ESU Police student workers or professional staff will escort you safely to your location.

The Stroud Area Regional and ESU Police Departments are actively investigating this incident and we need your assistance.
